Box Set review

A cause of feverish excitement here since we first heard these incredible tracks, Women & Children are without doubt one of the most intriguing and promising bands we have heard in recent times and this is a very strong contender for our album of the year. In their short lifespan Women & Children have already managed to gain something approaching mythical status and a fanbase that has spread like wildfire. The band have spent time travelling with and supporting Cat Power on tour, and following a chance encounter with Vincent Gallo the man booked them on the spot for a turn at his ATP festival. Split between the impossibly cool locations of Paris and New York, Women & Children grew out of a fascination with electronics and lo-fi emissions, something that has gradually developed into a sound that takes in traditional Piano-led folk songs, fuzzed-up Nico-esque garage hits and upside down pop hits born out of a midnight feast of found sounds. This amazing release comes in a sublime, lavish embossed box that included two 10”s, a DVD brimming with live footage and specially comissioned video clips, and text written by Mora Salvatrucha. Without any release for these amazing tracks on cd, this limited edition of 500 box sets looks like the only way of obtaining these tracks, and with the music industry whisper fast turning into a scream from the rooftops, you’d be strongly advised to pick one of these up fast. A remarkable album from a remarkable band – a huge, gushing recommendation.
